Matcha Green Tea Latte

A few years ago, I decided to try making a matcha latte after a friend told me how soothing and nourishing they are. If you aren’t familiar with matcha, it is a powder made from ground green tea leaves. Since the whole green tea leaves are being consumed with matcha, the result is more nutrients taken in than with steeped green tea. After many versions, this is the recipe I landed on. I find it so soothing and warming on a cold day, a hug in a mug.

1 ¼ teaspoon matcha powder

1 teaspoon honey

¼ teaspoon vanilla

1 cup warmed milk (I like oat milk)

In a small bowl add the matcha with 1 tablespoon hot water. Use an electric frother or matcha whisk to blend until there are no clumps. 

Add in the honey, vanilla, and milk and whisk again until a nice froth forms. You can enjoy right in the bowl which is the traditional Japanese way or pour into a mug.
