Maple Apple Butter

Apples, maple syrup, and warming spices slowly cook together to make this delicious apple butter. It is has that cozy “autumn in Vermont” feeling to it. This cooks in the crock pot all day (or night,) filling the house with those fall aromas we adore. It is scrumptious on toast, waffles, cornbread, swirled in oatmeal, or even in a latte. The possibilities are endless. Pictured above is toast with ricotta, apple butter, and a few pumpkin seeds, perfection.

Maple Apple Butter Ingredients

4 pounds apples, cored, peeled, and roughly chopped (Honey Crisp, Braeburn, Gala, Pink Lady, etc)

1 cup real maple syrup

1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

Place all ingredients in a crock pot and stir to combine. Cook covered on low 8 hours. Remove the lid and cook an additional hour, stirring occasionally. Let cool. Add the apple butter to a blender and purée for extra smooth consistency. Pour into containers and store in the fridge for two weeks. It will firm up once it is chilled. I also like to freeze in small batches and enjoy throughout fall and winter. This is also a nice gift to bring to dinner or holiday parties for a hostess gift.

Makes about 5 cups

*The quality of apples is very important. I like to use a sweet apple like Honey Crisp
