Bolognese Sauce

This Bolognese sauce is hearty and delicious and makes the house smell amazing while it simmers on the stove. I like to serve over penne or rigatoni, but it is also delicious with spaghetti squash for a lighter option. Sprinkle with some freshly grated parmesan and fresh basil and enjoy this cozy meal on a chilly day.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 yellow onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 lb ground turkey or chicken (you can also use a plant-based alternative)

3 teaspoons Italian seasoning

½ cup red wine

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

1 28 oz can diced tomatoes

1 cup vegetable broth

1 tablespoon tomato paste

salt and pepper

parmesan and basil to garnish

Directions

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium high heat. Once hot, add the onion. Cook until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes, stirring often. Add the garlic, stir, and cook for a minute.

Add in the ground turkey or chicken and season with salt and pepper. Add in the Italian seasoning and stir. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add in the wine and vinegar and stir to deglaze the pan. Add in the tomatoes, vegetable broth, and tomato paste. Reduce heat and simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper.

Serve over pasta and garnish with parmesan and basil if desired.
