Nostalgic Banana Shake

Long before we all started making green smoothies and other nutrient dense drinks, we were likely making banana shakes. I know I was. It is always a bit nostalgic now when I make one as I had these frequently in the ’90s while I was in elementary school. My favorite movie at that time was Father of the Bride and I was heavily influenced by the scene with the blender. Annie may not have been too keen on that gift initially, but I sure wanted to give these banana shakes a try!
Nostalgic Banana Shake
I have elevated the ingredients a bit over the years to make this the perfect banana shake. Feel free to add a tablespoon of nut butter for a little extra protein if you wish.
1 ½ c oat milk or your preferred milk*
One frozen banana
1 teaspoon honey
2 teaspoons ground flaxseed
¼ cup quick oats
1 tablespoon nut butter (optional)
Blend all ingredients in a highspeed blender for about a minute and enjoy! The frozen banana is key to making this extra creamy and refreshing. I always keep frozen banana halves in the freezer so they are ready for various smoothies.
Serves 1
*If you are not using oat milk you may need to increase the honey a bit since oat milk is naturally on the sweet side.
